In Colorado, approximately 94 percent of all electricity is generated by coal-fired utilities. Each year the average customer for electricity in the state consumes enough coal to emit into the air 38,000 pounds of carbon dioxide – the most important “greenhouse gas” responsible for global warming. While many families and businesses want to help ameliorate the problem of global warming, they have few options through which to exercise their concern.
CORE works to increase renewable energy choices and build a clean energy ethic in western Colorado. CORE works directly with businesses and consumers to install renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, and partners with utilities and local governments to promote green power programs. Through its partnership with the city of Aspen, CORE has implemented clean energy projects that will keep 17 million pounds of carbon dioxide out of the air over the next 20 years.
